Let's talk about Sportpesa. Sportpesa is the largest east African betting site that gives you an opportunity to make some "marupurupu" by supporting your sports team. Okay some genius freak finally came with a way to make football, cricket, women's sports interesting by making people begin studying scores or rather live scores to see if the y can bring a meal to the table. Sportpesa is now employing both the unemployed 98% Kenyan youth together with the employed folk.
The real question which everyone including me keep asking themselves is: Can Sportpesa really change someone's life? Can it take you from grass to grace? Can it make you stop eating "momos" and take you to eating cup cakes with coffee in the morning? Can Sportpesa bring meat to every dinner? Will you stop eating "githeri" during lunch once you start betting with sportpesa? Wow!! Loads of questions that can be answered with only one answer.
Truth is, in the beginning God punished man and punished the earth such that man would eat his own sweat by ploughing on the earth. That simply answers all those questions. You get what you paid for. Betting is like a cult... Betting is a cult. Mark my words and don't go around everyones ears saying some blogger said "sportpesa is a cult" because I didn't actually mention anything like that. once you begin betting you can never, never stop prove me wrong but this is my own opinion based on my own research.
The only winners in Sportpesa is the owner of that organisation. They make approximately 50 million kenyan shillings per week if my calculations should be correct while you broke ninjas keep losing a hundred bob day after day.
What you win = What you've lost
This is why I think betting is a cult; I have a friend of mine who wins about KES.4,000 everyday courtesy of Sportpesa & Elitebet but this guy eats "omena, skuma and ugali" for lunch everyday. He wears bathroom slippers while going for lectures, the t-shirt he wore the day before yesterday, yesterday, today and probably tomorrow is the same promotional t-shirt. So the question is... where is all the money?
Luckily I have the answer because I know where exactly the cash goes. The won money is all used in betting the next game and thus the victim ends up possessing only virtual money rather than real cash in hand. I am not against Sportpesa or its followers, I am only opening people's minds. For instance if you win KES.5,000 tonight, make an effort and withdraw KES.4,500 leave the other punch you can bet on that later.
We get back to our main question, Is Sportpesa really the bright future of "mahustler" in Chuka University? No, there is no bright future because of the reasons below:
- The betting site will not exist forever or rather will not provide the exact same services for the rest of time in this world.
- The victim spends all his/her time analysing past games including those that tok place in 1895 just to know which team might win thus missing classes or rather losing concentration which therefore leads to failure in the university.
- Once you fail in campus, The betting organisation will not guarantee you a job in their office hence you remain doomed forever.
- You spend all your time betting hence denying yourself the chance to learn new stuff such as how to feed girraffes or how to look like a monkey in a hotel.
