Egerton University, Nakuru Town Campus students earlier today engaged anti-riot police in running battles along the Nakuru-Nairobi highway. The students staged a riot earlier in the day that was dispersed by the
anti-riot police shortly after its commencement. The course of the riots is yet to be established. A section of the students have come out strongly condemning both the school management and the students for allowing the strike to come into fruition when they had all the means to help prevent it.
“Is strike the only language they understand?” quipped one student on social media. “I cant blame student for strike I blame the reluctancy of management, they value money more than lives of students and that’s why
among many other reasons they just live a miserable lives am bored by what they do that leads to terminating the image of university”, the student stated.
Other students who were caught unawares by the strike had to bare the brunt of tear gas canisters that were lobbed at them by the police while trying to calm them down. No student has been arrested so far over the incident.
This comes just days after the Egerton University Students’ Union – Njoro Campus Chairman Mr Isaac Ongoma was expelled from the institution for leading students into striking.
